The square blade, the stern and the hamstrings

A technical study of Xeno Müller‘s rowing technique before the Sydney Olympics.

Xeno analyzes his own rowing technique before the Sydney Olympics where he won the silver medal in single sculls. He made his conclusions:

  • watch the stern;
  • use hamstrings to draw the boat back;
  • optimize the catch (square blade);
  • keep the blade square till the end of the draw;
  • keep the boat steady (hand separation).
